Beebe to honor Lord Baltimore Women's Club at March 8 event - CapeGazette.com

As part of its observance of International Women’s Day, Beebe Healthcare has designated Lord Baltimore Women’s Club, based in Ocean View, as a progressive group making a difference in the community.

The club will be honored at the Beebe Healthcare 4th Annual Girls Night Day Out event from 12 to 2 p.m., Sunday, March 8, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel in Rehoboth Beach.

Marnie Oursler, president of Marnie Custom Homes and host of HGTV’s “Big Beach Build” will be the keynote speaker.

Amy Popovich, events coordinator for Beebe Medical Foundation, and Kay Young, executive director of development for Beebe Medical Foundation, announced the recognition at the club’s Jan. 20 meeting. 

“Beebe is proud to honor the Lord Baltimore Women’s Club for their hard work and dedication to fundraising and community involvement,” said Young. “It is organizations such as this that make Beebe’s expansion efforts possible.”

Now in its 86th year, the Lord Baltimore Women’s Club  has distinguished itself as an advocate for the betterment of the community accomplished through targeted fundraising and community involvement.

Through its major fundraising events in the spring and fall, and a variety of year-round events, the club is able to offer scholarships to outstanding graduating seniors and to sophomores to attend week-long leadership programs each summer. Members enrich the learning experience of elementary school students by volunteering as student mentors and readers. Funds also help teachers purchase classroom needs not covered by annual budgets.

The club responds to community needs by donating monthly to local food banks and assisting families facing unexpected hardships. Club volunteers are environmental advocates who can be seen doing roadside cleanups on Route 1 in the Bethany Beach area. The club helps fellow community organizations meet their fundraising and community goals. Members network at meetings. Various subcommittees create and meet specific goals. Club members also visit well-known locations throughout the state.

“The Lord Baltimore Women’s Club members takes pride in its history of community involvement. We’re always thinking about ways we can support the common good,” said President Barbara Sunderlin. “In 1934, a group of forward-thinking women established Lord Baltimore Women’s Club. In 2020, we’re very proud to receive this honor from Beebe Healthcare. We know our founders would be, too.”
