The Table Mountain Men’s Golf Club had a large turnout of its members participating in the Northern California Golf Association four-ball qualifying tournament. The team of Rodney Amburn, Peter Davis, Bryan Flicker and Michael Martin will have the honor of representing the club at the North Valley Zone level of competition, July 20-21 at Poppy Hills and Carmel Valley Ranch in Monterey after finishing with a two, best-ball score of 123.

Other teams finishing in the winners’ circle and garnering some golf shop credit were as follows. First flight: 1, Chuck Conner, Manuel Morales, Tyler Sharp and Marcus Walberg, 124; 2, Tony Baptista, Conner Anderson, Joy Lauer and Mike Cvitkovich, 126. Second flight; 1, Amburn, Davis, Martin and Flicker, 123; 2, Mike Douglas, Stuart Avrit, Mathew Carlson and David Gresham, 124. Third flight: 1, Kyle Kee, Guy Latouche, Ed Melton and Yves Latouche, 133, card-off; 2, Francis Steel, Francis Steel III, Larry Swars and Jody Carlson, 133. Closest to the pin: No. 3, Davis; No. 7, Hardeep Mundh, No. 12, Mike Martini; No. 16, Cvitkovich.

The Table Mountain Women’s Golf Club held an individual stroke play format for its weekly game. Sally Stemen turned in a nice round of 81 to take low gross on the day. Pam Weichert captured the low net award with a score of 70, albeit via the card-off process over Janett Ott. First flight low net: 1, Janett Ott, 70; 2, Sandy Goble, 75; 3, Elisa Senko, 76. Second flight low net: 1, Christl Yates, 71; 2, Pete Powell, 77; 3, Sybil Janke, 81. Closest to the pin on hole No. 3: Stemen.

Canyon Oaks Country Club

The Canyon Oaks Women’s Golf Club played a game called “TOE” wherein only the holes beginning with those letters were counted in the game. First flight low gross: Konnie Marskey, 87. Low net: Lori Rainwater, 73. Game: 1, Marskey, 34; 2, Rainwater, 34.5; 3, Sally Pearson, 35. Second flight low gross and low net: Bonnie Seely, 100/70. Game: Linda Alworth, 31.5; 2, Nancy Dooly, 35; 3, Jakki Thomas, 36. Closest to pin on No. 16: 1, Evie Spring; 2, Thomas; 3, Pam Coleman.

Bidwell Park Golf Course

Two weeks of tournament results of the Bidwell Women’s Golf Club are being reported since I omitted the previous week in the golf column.

Two weeks ago the members played a game called “ONES” counting only the holes beginning with those letters: First flight low gross: Pat Van Dyke, 85. Game: 1, Sandy Fortino, 35; 2, Gloria Burson, 35.5. Second flight low gross: Barbara Albers, 99. Game: 1, May Gallaway, 36; 2, Gail Johnson, 38.5. Third flight low gross: Liz Mosher, 93. Game: 1, Theresa Martinez, 34; 2, Flo Herrera, 35.5; 3, Melodie Johnson, 36.5. Closest to pin on No. 12, in two shots: 1, Fortino; 2, Kelly MacKinnon; 3, Karla Dreiss.

Last week the club held its monthly pro-points tournament. First flight low gross: Kelly MacKinnon, 90. Low net: 1, Barbara Joronen, 72; 2, Lilia Crawford, 74. Second flight low gross: Karen Beckman, 99. Low net: 1, Liz Mosher, 70; 2, Linda Mowell, 73; 3, Debi McDermont, 75. Third flight low gross: Cindy Bell, 106. Low net: 1, Eileen Brownell, 70; 2, Flo Herrera, 73; 3, Joan Patton, 76. Closest to pin on No. 16: 1, Joronen; 2, Beckman; 3, Patton.

The El Rancho Chico Men’s Golf Club will be sending the team of Randy Cook and Chas Gower to Monterey for the North Zone four-ball tournament in July. Fourteen teams participated in the NCGA qualifying tournament.

Cook and Gower tied with the team of Alan Stephenson and Cecil Braswell at 63 and won the card-off. The team of Rob Sylvester and Lloyd Hightower finished in third place in the first flight. Second flight: 1, Jack Quinn and Lane Bates; 2, Bryan Guinness and Troy Franzen; 3, Gary Peterson and Scott Donahoo.

Butte Creek Country Club

Lynn Kyle was low net in the first flight of the Butte Creek Women’s Golf Club medal play format tournament last week with a net score of 72. Barbara Joronen finished in the second spot at 73. Jeanie Lowe rounded out the payoff spots with a score of 75. Second flight: 1, Kay Kurdziel, 72; 3, Bonnie Ford, 74; 4, tie, Karen Beckman and Janet Alves, 76.

Spectacular shots

It took a while, but Todd Moran finally achieved that ever elusive ace to add to his golfing achievements. Moran scored a hole-in-one on the No. 3 hole at Table Mountain with his trusty 6-iron. Witnessing Moran’s perfect 123-yard tee shot were his playing companions, Gerald Circo, Steve Landeros and Tuti Miller.
