The Nov. 4 meeting of the Marseilles Rotary was held at Bobaluk's in Marseilles. In attendance were Silas Parker, Kerry Caba, Bill Kuiper, Joanie Combs, Jennifer Parker, Kent Terry, Hank Roe, Mick Garrison, Brenda Donahue and Gene Carlson.
The speaker for the meeting was Mark Higdon, a volunteer for Dayton Bluffs Conservation Area and an expert in Native American artifacts; he brought some excellent examples to show the Club. The Dayton Bluffs conservation area is improving all the time with labor provided by volunteers on Saturday mornings from 8 a.m. to noon. Higdon told the Club about the Native American history of this area, noting that there were a number of different tribes in this area. The Starved Rock story, he noted, is essentially true and was passed down from generation to generation of Native Americans. Higdon showed how the Native Americans used burial mounds and reported that there were a number of these at Dayton Bluffs.
The club hosted a dinner Nov. 9 at the American Legion to raise money for the scholarship program in the spring.
