The Ottawa Garden Club met Nov. 19 at the Fox High Rise. Master Gardener/Naturalist Vicki Stacy gave a presentation on "The Art of Bonsai." Her presentation included the history of bonsai, the types of trees most commonly used, pruning and styles, the tools used and caring for your grown trees. She brought several of her personal bonsai trees to explain the different styles. The club voted to donate the speaker fee to the Ottawa Public Action to Deliver Shelter facility.
The door greeter was Verna Sampson; hospitality greeter was Sarah Fahlmark. Refreshment committee was Mrs. Bob Woodrum, Diane Carr, Christine Frangoulis and Pam LaGioia. Carr won the door prize. Club members decorated the window at the warming center for the Kris Kringle Market.
The Club's Christmas party was Dec. 10 at BASH. Door greeter was Sharon Stevenson. The holiday party committee was Sue Pavlick, Sarah Fahlmark, Carr and Frangoulis. Judy Augustyniak won the door prize. The Club also had a Christmas potting party at Red Bud Creek on Dec. 14.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at the Fox High Rise. The program will be "Garden Favorites: Practices, Plants and Preferences," which will include member participation. All guests are welcomed. For questions, call Diane Carr at 815-343-1617.
