HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ - The Hasbrouck Heights Junior Woman’s Club celebrated the 95th Anniversary of the organization this past weekend. Past and current members attended the celebratory brunch on Sunday, January 12. The emcee for the event was club Vice President Marija Forenbaher. Guests were welcomed by co-Presidents Jill Ferdinand and Melissa Karcic who provided an overview of the club.
The Hasbrouck Heights Junior Woman’s Club was presented with Proclamations for their 95 years by New Jersey Congressman Bill Pascrell and Mayor Jack Delorenzo along with Hasbrouck Heights Councilmembers Josephine Cioccia, Russell Lipari, Christopher Hillmann and Ron Kistner. Mimi Hui, Director of the HH Public Library, presented books dedicated in the HHJWC’s honor, Girls Who Run the World by Diana Kapp, With a Little Help From My Friends by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and
The Serious Goose by Jimmy Kimmel.
The HHJWC sponsors programs such as the Fourth Grade Foresters, providing students with live saplings to take home and plant, story times at the Hasbrouck Heights Public Library, and the annual fourth and fifth grade Spelling Bee. They also sponsor two junior high school students to the Girls Career Institute, and award five scholarships to graduating seniors. The members collect food and items for donation to the Hasbrouck Heights Food Pantry, Wounded Warrior Project, and CASA for New Jersey.
Each year the club raises money through local events which they donate to various local, national and international organizations, such as PBA Local 102, Policeman Card Program, Hasbrouck Heights Soccer Association team sponsorship, Hasbrouck Heights Junior Football League ad journal, Wounded Warrior Project, Wreaths Across America, UNICEF, and Save the Children.
Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders members Mary Amoroso and Germaine Ortiz presented a proclamation on behalf of Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco and announced a passed resolution that January 13, 2020, would be The Hasbrouck Heights Junior Woman’s Club Day.
Additional speakers included Assemblywoman Lisa Swain, Marie Sullivan, the New Jersey State Federation of Woman’s Clubs Palisade District Vice President, who provided an overview and history of the club which included various awards the organization had won as well as past members who shared memories of their time in the club. Co-Presidents, Ferdinand and Karcic, acknowledged past presidents and gave out annual awards to current members which concluded the celebration.
“We were so happy that so many past and present members attend the brunch," said Jill Ferdinand. "We work hard all year long and it was so great for all of us to be acknowledged by so many important people. Together we are an amazing group of woman and I look forward to what we accomplish next.”
